Baklava in Pennsylvania

After a show in Uniontown this past weekend, we came out to the front lobby to say hello to our audience as we always do. We were happy to see a spunky elderly woman who has come to every show we’ve done at the State Theater (our third time there in three years). She first introduced herself in 2005 when we presented Radio Days there and was so touched by our show as she was a WWII bride and related especially to that particular show. We discovered that she had recently written a book about her experiences as a war bride. It’s always interesting to meet our audiences, but sometimes there are certain people that make these shows even more worthwhile to present… she is one of these special and generous people I’ll never forget. This time, she and her daughter actually brought some beautiful and tasty treats for us! She must be close to 80 y/o – she had perfectly knitted two beautiful scarves for Lorie and me, and also brought a big tin of delicious baklava, Belgian waffle cookies and some German pastries that she generously made for us. It’s amazing the energy this woman exudes – I loved talking to her and her daughter. And everyone in the group certainly enjoyed the treats – by this morning the big tin was empty! (I admit, I took the last piece of baklava… yummmmm!!)
